Edmund Rosenstengel (1887-1962), furniture-maker, was born on 2 February 1887 at Toowoomba, Queensland, ninth of twelve children of Richard Rosenstengel, a Prussian-born cabinet-maker, and his wife Margaret, née Moynihan, who came from Ireland. Last name meaning Rosenstengel: In its basic form as 'Rose' this very old German surname is one of the very first on record Rosenstengel was commissioned to build a bedroom suite made from Queensland maple that was to be installed in Government House for the visit of the Duke of Gloucester in 1934, and he also designed a maple and satinwood jewellery box (below) that was presented to the Duchess of York (later in her life, she would be known as the Queen Mother) during her visit to Brisbane with her husband (who The Rosenstengel family name was found in the USA between 1880 and 1920. Welcome to what I believe to be the first website dedicated to the unique style and quality of Ed Rosenstengel furniture. Ed Rosenstengel and his craftsmen operated out of premises in Fortitude Valley Brisbane between 1922 and 1958 over which time they developed a reputation for producing furniture of outstanding quality and unique design.

1920s/30s Silky Oak Settee Probably by Ed Rosenstengel, with carved back and fluted arms, upholstered in a fabric with carpet designs

Antique double bed by celebrated Australian furniture designer and maker Ed Rosenstengel. Queensland maple timber (honey coloured), made in Brisbane in approx. 1920s/1930s. Excellent condition, minor wear and tear only. Original slats not included however modern brackets included which will fasten bedheads to a solid bed base (underneath a mattress) - refer last photo.
