# The angles were measured using the digital Picture Archiving and Communication System. Results: The sample consisted of 800 patients; 554 (69.2%) were women and 246 (30.8%), men. In the sample evaluated, the Gissane angle is 110.6±11.9, while the Böhler angle is 32.6±6.1.

Abstract. Study objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the use of Boehler's angle (BA) and the critical angle of Gissane (CAG) in diagnosing calcaneus fractures in the ED. Design: The study was conducted as a randomized, blinded, case-control trial.

Varying angular obliquity in the caudal and posteroanterior direction hardly affected Gissane's angle. The Gissane (crucial) angle is formed by two strong cortical struts extending laterally, one along the lateral margin of the posterior facet and the other extending anterior to the beak of the calcaneus. The average Gissane angle in our study is 126.79 degrees, whereas in the western population, it is 122.5 degrees. The mean of Gissane’s angle was 122.92 ± 6.952 ranged from 108° to 138°, while the mean of calcaneal compression angle was 31.03 ± 3.82 ranged from 24° to 44°. The mean Gissane’s angle in the present study was 108.5 degrees. The maximum and minimum values for Gissane angle were 86.3° and 137.8° (Table:1).

The normal range is 20 to 40 degrees. Angles < 20 degrees is suggestive of a calcaneus fracture and/or disruption of the posterior facet. The critical angle of Gissane (G) and the Boehler angle (B) have also been drawn in.

## Lateral view of the ankle was taken using a digital X-ray machine. Two parameters namely Bohler`s and Gissane angles were measured, independently by two

In Japan, Hirano and co-workers performed the study to examine the anatomical features of the AALTF of the talus and the opposing calcaneus in aged cadavers (86.5 years old at death: range 70- 102 years). Boehler's angle and the critical angle of Gissane are of limited use in diagnosing calcaneus fractures in the ED Jason R. Knight, Eric Gross , Gail H. Bradley, Curt Bay, Frank LoVecchio Research output : Contribution to journal › Article › peer-review In the short-term follow-up, Böhler angle, Gissane angle, and calcaneal height did not significantly differ (P > .05) between the 2 groups. In long-term follow-up, Böhler and Gissane angles were better in the bone graft group than in the non-bone graft group.

### The operation increased Gissane angle of patients in Sanders II, III, and IV groups. For the Sanders II patients, the Gissane angles in the post-operation group (124.3±9.6) were significantly higher compared to the pre-operation group (104.8±12.8) (Figure 4A, p<0.05).

Results: The Bohler`s and Gissane angles for the Indian population are statistically different from those seen in the published data for other population groups, as evidenced by the P value (P < 0.05). Bohler angle and the crucial angle of Gissane were measured in 429 children. The sample was mainly composed of two groups: 9 to 12 years of age (39%) and 13 to 16 years of age (31%). In the sample group, the mean Bohler angle was 35.4° ± 5.9° (95% confidence interval [CI]: 23.6°-47.2°) and the mean crucial angle of Gissane was 110.5° ± 7.4° (95% CI: 95.7°-125.3°).

## The Angle of Gissane, or "Critical Angle", is the angle formed by the downward and upward slopes of the calcaneal superior surface. On a lateral radiograph, an angle of Gissane > 130° suggests fracture of the posterior subtalar joint surface.

Historically, physicians would measure Bohler’s angle and the critical angle of Gissane in cases where a calcaneal fracture was not clearly evident on a plain X-ray. Outlined in Figure 3, a calcaneal fracture would be suspected if Bohler’s angle was below 20 degrees or the critical angle of Gissane was noted to be more than 140 degrees. 2020-01-01 · Gissane‘s angle was hardly affected by deviation in the caudal direction (toward –30°); all 95% CIs spanned 0°. Varying angular obliquity in the posteroanterior direction (Fig. 3D) did not evidently affect Gissane's angle, with a maximum decrease in Gissane's angle of 3.3° in the anterior direction and 2.9° in the posterior direction.
